This week I had a session photographing some Still Life object shots for the Spaceroom Website which is soon to be launched. All the objects are taken from the Spaceroom office.

I’m delighted to hear that my artist friend Alessandro Raho has a new book out featuring his work from 1990′s to the present day. It’s the first one dedicated solely to his work and I have just bagged myself a copy from Amazon. The book will be no substitute for seeing his beautifully crafted paintings in the flesh, but it is an accessible way of experiencing and familiarising yourself with his work before his next exhibition.
I have been lucky enough to sit for Alessandro myself. I wasn’t very good at it as I’m too self conscious and awkward, but he did make this portrait of me which now hangs in The Groucho Club, London…pretty cool hey! (incidentally I do usually smile more than this).

Just before Christmas I had my second job for ElevenFiftyFive who produce the Volkswagen See Film Differently events.
The premise of SFD events is to present a special preview film screening with free tickets, of some really great films. Often they are screened in Picturehouse cinemas, but occasionally they put on a large scale event in obscure locations linked to the film. The event I photographed was for The Iron Lady and was held at Manchester Town Hall, which had been used as the Houses of Parliament scene in the film.
Lucky ticket holders were treated to free drinks, bangers and mash and popcorn! Bargain. Well worth battling the rain for.

The final installment of the Time Out feature led me to cabaret star Alp Haydar. Alps show intertwines live performance with pre-recorded green screen video projection. He is so sweet and seemed truly excited that his show would be featured in the magazine. We had a good amount of time together so managed to get a variety of shots… in amongst our chatting!

My second job of the Time Out feature was with another lovely lady, Jennifer Pickup. Jenny has just had her debut novel published through the revolutionary Unbound book publishing concept.
As it’s a supernatural fiction story aimed at teens, we made our way to St Pancras church. The weather was absolutely perfect for the shoot and again Jenny was a pleasure to shoot. Unquestioning and fun. We ended the session with a celebratory new year burger. Yum.

I was fortunate enough to start the New Year with a busy week, phew! All that over-eating and drinking over Christmas could be done guilt free as I knew I had work on my return to London. What made this even better was the fact it was a really fantastic job, given to me by the lovely people at Time Out London.
I was asked to photograph 3 new stars of 2012. First up was the wonderful Blanche McIntyre at the Finborough Theatre.
Blanche is an up and coming theatre director who, although we only had a brief time together for our session, gave 100 percent for my pictures. She truly was a photographers dream: expressive, sincere and real fun to work with, and she didn’t seem put off by my incessant babbling as I raced around to create a few variations on the set up. I’ve posted the tear sheet which was published in last weeks Time Out, but have also included a few of the out-takes of the shoot.

Dan is bored

2012.01.13

Whilst waiting to photograph womens armpits (don’t ask) I took this shot of Dan. I think he is (not so) secretly hating every second of this

I’ve just had a couple of features published in this months FHM from my various jaunts out and about pestering people in the street with a writer.
Watch out as you never know when I shall appear! (Particularly if you are a young, hot woman which is generally the brief!)

At the start of December I worked on a promo film and advertising still for this years Focus on Imaging at Birminghams NEC.
The subject was the massively inspiring (and brilliantly humble) photographer Robert Dowling who, amongst many other iconic images, created a few of the Pink Floyd album covers in the late 1970′s early 1980′s.
The one we were attempting to reference was the cover to ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’, so a small crew assembled on a freezing cold Camber Sands beach. I managed to grab a few behind the scenes shots throughout the day, and you can see the finished the video here
