On a recent commission for Time Out Magazine, I was asked to photograph the East End traditional Fish & Chip Emporium, Poppies.
The feature was based around 50 places in London which make you feel good and for sure Poppies is one of them. Right from the moment I walked in, the place was buzzing. Lots of pretty waitresses wearing old fashioned pinafores and head scarves were floating around, making sure everyone was happy. The resturant was filled with customers, even at 3pm on a Friday, but the staff did everything they could to help accommodate you.
It was definitely a place I would go to again, and as a perk of the job I got a free lunch which was delicious too.

So January has arrived and it’s time to start the year afresh with all those resolutions of being more proactive…so here I am sitting writing a blog post, procrastinating.
I’ve actually been trawling through some old shoots and have accumulated a selection of food shots, an area which I’m hoping to focus more on this year (maybe it’s that post-christmas ‘food on the brain’)

At the start of October I went on a little road trip for WI Life magazine. My task was to photograph producers of the new WI Food range which is to be launched later this month at the BBC Good Food Show. The feature was 6 pages long with the intention to inform WI members of the concept and people behind the new products. I got to travel up to Yorkshire and Chelmsford in a sporty little Audi I had hired. Lots of fun. As ever with WI jobs, the people I photographed were accommodating and very pleasant to shoot.

Also in this months Transmitter is a shot I did of the gorgeous Tilli twins who own Brown and Green cafe in Gipsy Hill station.
The theme was vintage/cupcake inspired and was shot in the new cupcake shop in Crystal Palace, Soulcialise. Yum!
Once again I’ve added some out-takes from the shoot

2011.09.30

This appears to be a good week for my tear sheets as yet another story has been published.
This time, my focus was on Lucius, a new Italian which has opened up in Gipsy Hill. I photographed the owner, Mel, and some of their tasty dishes for this months Transmitter magazine.

Alongside the published work, I’ve added a few out takes from the shoot.

I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Rachel deThample last week who has recently published her first recipe book ‘Less Meat More Veg‘.
Centered around research finding the amount of meat we eat can be detrimental to our diet, she has re-developed much loved classic recipes (like Shepherds Pie, etc) to derive more of the taste from an abundance of vegetables whilst using less meat.

The photographs will run alongside a feature on Rachel in next months Transmitter Magazine.
