Lilos in Suffolk

2012.03.13

A couple of weeks ago I was commissioned to create an album cover for the new Motorcycle Display Team album. They had very firm ideas about the style and content of the image, and had settled on featuring a Spillway. Spillways are usually found in reservoirs and are giant holes within the body of water which prevent overflowing.
As I was drafted in to the project quite late on, I didn’t have time to visit an actual Spillway so instead I settled on getting the correct background scenery, which was the beautiful Suffolk lakelands.
We decided to get up early to get the best light for our landscape shots, so off we trundled at 5.30am waiting for that beautiful sunrise…except that glorious sunlight never came. It was the greyest day ever. We literally could have woken up at 12pm and got the same light, however when I took them back and looked through, it couldn’t have been more perfect for what we wanted.
The Spillway itself was created by the wonderful Ross Casswell plunging a bucket into icy water.
Then of course it was a day long photoshop job comping it all together, but at least it was a fun road trip.

About a month ago I shot The Maccabees for this months Stool Pigeon in Hoxton. I didn’t have them until the afternoon by which time the light was really dropping, however I found this amazing park near Hoxton square which was covered in beautiful colourful autumn leaves; providing a contrast to the gloomy weather.
The band were really lovely and were up for getting involved with the leaves so the shot worked! I am very grateful to them for being such good sports.
I did a few variations but the falling leaves is definitely my favourite set up.

Stool Pigeon

Last Friday I had a very exciting shoot for Stool Pigeon magazine.
I’m still editing and processing the pictures so I shan’t disclose any details just yet but
whilst waiting for the band I took this shot. I love the colours and that twilight time of late afternoon so much. Not so good for shooting conditions but I think it adds to the ambience.

I went to a festival in Hyde Park last weekend. It was fun, although it rained. A lot.
I’m thinking of rocking a poncho more often but not so much a hat with a childs windmill flower on it
