Flora

2012.04.20

My friend Claudine bought me some flowers last Sunday. I loved them and added them to some roses I already had.
Sometimes when I’m sat around I will stare at these flowers. I truly love them. The colours are a little clashing and they are different varieties of flower, but I think that’s what makes them so compelling to me.
They won’t last much longer and I want to keep them forever so I have photographed them in a way so as to remind me of the awkward beauty.

So I’m posting this up but I don’t really want you to hear it because I am aware my voice is wavering and they aren’t even difficult questions.
I perform better behind the camera.
However, I think it’s good for the soul in some way and if nothing else, it’s a lesson to all about being more succint.
Fortunately I’m pretty much the last person to speak on it so hopefully by that point one will have lost interest or become distracted and will only half listen.
Either way, it is a little explanation (literally in my own babbled words) on the idea behind my Focus on imaging Best in Show project 2012

Photography Monthly Podcast April 2012

Last week I was commissioned by the organisers of Focus on Imaging to complete a four day personal project called Best in Show. It’s a project I started last year where I invite photographers visiting the show to be photographed with their best bargains from the exhibition.
I am still trawling through the images and processing but here is a sneak peek of one of my favourites.

Mr Perou

2012.03.06

I am halfway through my 4 day stint at Focus on Imaging doing my Best in Show series. So far I have had a great response with all sorts of bargains being offered up to be photographed in my on site camera booth.
Yesterday started well with none other than Perou who had bought a bargainous bag for his camera kit.
He later went on to blog about his time at the show which you will find here
I still have two days to go, so anyone heading up to Birmingham, be sure to come and find me on the Focus gallery stand.

Last year, I had the opportunity to meet some lovely photographers down at Focus On Imaging at the NEC, Birmingham.
Whilst working at the trade show with the film crew, I became interested in the notion that people flock to Focus not only to try out new equipment, but also to search out the show bargains. What I discovered was that many people make a pilgrimage to Focus with a shopping list full of items which they know will be heavily discounted at the show.

I started a mini project photographing some of the visitors with their ‘best bargains’ and I’m really pleased to say the organisers have picked up on it and made it part of the actual Focus on Imaging 2012 show. The project ties in perfectly with this years advertising theme of putting photographers behind the lens. I will have my own photobooth stand so if anyone is going, be sure to look me up at the show.

Klub Gutenberg

2012.02.09

Last night I headed down to Klub Gutenberg to learn about the Slow Loris and watch an acoustic gig by Aidan Moffat. It was a strange event, fusing together learning with a music gig but it was really good fun. One of those random London events that you stumble across.
Here are a few shots of things that I saw

The view from my office window on Sunday was amazing. There was a blanket of mist which partially covered the bottom of the transmitter tower, allowing it to ascend into the sunshine and blue sky

Stool Pigeon

2011.11.14

Last Friday I had a very exciting shoot for Stool Pigeon magazine.
I’m still editing and processing the pictures so I shan’t disclose any details just yet but
whilst waiting for the band I took this shot. I love the colours and that twilight time of late afternoon so much. Not so good for shooting conditions but I think it adds to the ambience.
