Jemma Doyle

Back in May I had the opportunity to ‘glamp’ in a Gypsy Caravan for the night at Fisherton Farm after photographing owner Jemma Doyle, a former city girl stylist for Mario Testino now converted into a country loving farmer.

I’ll be honest, I’m not much of a camper and at first this seemed barely one step up, yet the caravans were adorably cute and set within beautiful, lush Devon fields dotted with the occasional grazing cow.

Being a country dweller, Jemma’s approach to the she shoot was refreshingly relaxed and it was wonderful to hear the tales of her transformation from fashionista to farmer over a leisurely period as we worked our way around each set up. Sometimes my shoots are so frantic due to time pressures, you don’t properly get chance to chat to the subject so it was lovely that our conversation rolled into an evening BBQ rustled up using their farm produce by her husband Gavin.

The site itself was stunning, especially as you mount the hill in the little red tractor that carries your luggage and take in the first view of the trio of caravans. During your stay you are given freedom to wander around the farm and learn from Gavin about being a farmer, or you can retreat to the little coppice set out with picnic table, rope swing and day lounger, lighting a fire at night when it gets cold.

I’ll be honest, I’m still not much of a camper, even after this,  however I’m glad I got to check it off the list and I am grateful for the wonderful hospitality bestowed on us by Jemma and Gavin.
