Women’s rights activist and barrister Pramila Patten currently serves as the UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in areas of conflict. The day I photographed her was part of a whistle stop visit to London. I was in the same room as the interview whilst I set up my kit and I have to say it was sobering listening.
Some of the abuse suffered by women in war zones- on top of the general debris and detritus encountered in such places where people are killing each other- is absolutely sickening. But at least there are strong women like Pramila who become the voices of those unable to shout themselves, to tell their stories, to educate people who feel far removed, and to prompt change.
